Friends

Elsie has a friend.

Not just a kid I make her hang out with and cutely call her friend (like most of the children she knows), but a real, honest-to-goodness friend.  She talks about him when he's not around.  She asks to go to the park to look for him.  She shares her toys and her food with him without hesitation.  She gives him hugs.

Killian is a few months younger than Elsie.  He's sweet as can be, petite, cheerful, and not very verbal yet.  No matter.  Elsie is as happy to babble with Killian as she is to talk in paragraphs with more verbal kids, and laughter certainly doesn't need a vocabulary.  Killian hasn't got many words, but "Elsie" is one of them.  He named one of the dolls in his dollhouse after her.

All the better that Killian's parents are fun and exciting people and unbelievably compatible with Hub and me.  Friends for us, too!

Today, Killian's dad (who does most of the staying home in their family) and I took the kids to the beach.  80 degrees F, not a cloud in the sky, and only the lightest of breezes.  It was heaven!  Strange stuff for early spring, but I'll take it.

I shot a little video snip.  It's nothing special, but you can see Elsie's glee at the ice-cold waves and Killian gets a funny little life-lesson in why his dad keeps telling him not to throw sand.  No worries, no tears involved.
