Excerpt From A Letter To My Mom

The girls had their first music class this morning.  I had been worried about Elsie being two years younger than the other piano students, but instead I got the talk from the teacher after class that Lucia might not be ready for her music and motion class.  You see, she doesn't follow directions.  I surprised myself by taking that news (which is not news) pretty hard.

I think that raising this child is going to be different in every single way than raising Elsie.

Elsie won an award at school for following the rules.  The principal gave her a pencil.

Lucia sneaked out of the house and stole a Cabbage Patch Kid from L, next door, where nobody was home, while I was on the toilet or something.  I didn't know the back door was open.  Must have blown open in the wind.  No harm done besides the petty theft, but it was a bit of an eye-opener.  I haven't even told Hub that story.  I don't really know how he'll react, but I think it'll be some combination of thinking less of me and demanding more of me.
