Infant Potty Update

Because I know all of you are just DYING to hear more about my baby's bowl habits...

"Pooping the baby" is working out very, very well for us. (click here for back story)

Lucia (age, almost 8 months) has not had a poop in her diaper for two months.  In her sixth month, she had two poops in her diaper, and in her 7th and 8th months, none.  She does her business in the toilet every day.
I still take her to the bathroom after daytime nursing and now after solid meals, too.  That's usually five times a day.  I still cue her with a "Psssssss!" noise.  I give her a minute to try, and an additional minute after whatever she does (pee right away, and poop, if she has any, at about the 1 minute mark).  The whole process generally takes 2-5 minutes.

I check in the mirror to see what her bum is doing (if that sphincter is squeezing, it's back on the toilet for an additional minute), I wipe her up, and back in her diaper and clothes she goes.

I usually carry an extra diaper and tiny zip-lock bag of wipes with us when we leave the house, but we haven't needed the provisions for months.  I have her in disposable diapers these days.  We use 3 or 4 of them a day.

This is a game-changer!  No blowouts.  Minimal logistical anxiety surrounding outings.  Zero diaper rash.  Perpetually clean, sweet-smelling baby.  No disgusting diaper pail.  I am so glad I tried this method.

I have to share it here, because if I talk about this on the street,

a) Nobody will believe me
b) People will definitely think I'm crazy
c) I probably won't be making any more parent friends in a hurry

But I'll share it all here, because I'm quietly tickled pink!  When I started conditioning Lucia to poop on command, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that she could be poop-trained by six months old.  But there you have it.

  1. Hey! In the name of science, could we get an update about how this method has worked as Lucia transitioned into toddlerhood? Thanks, love the blog!
