Seeking Advice!

I am currently marooned on nap island.

That is to say, I am stuck at home maintaining a socially acceptable radius from my baby while she naps.  I regret yesterday's healthy choice NOT to stock my freezer with ice cream, but there you have it.  I am stuck at home with no ice cream at all.

I am a devout subscriber to Wissebluth and his sleep methods.  His crazy idea that early bedtime solves all sleep problems worked wonders on Elsie. "The more they sleep, the more they sleep!" has become a family mantra, the afternoon nap: sacred daily ritual.

Elsie was a great sleeper from very early on.  She slept through the night for the first time when only a few weeks old.  We didn't do anything special.  It was beginner's luck.

As far as five-month-olds go, Lucia is pretty good.  She puts herself to sleep every night.  But she wakes every morning at about 3:00 am.  She doesn't need anything.  She just wakes up and wakes me up.  If I'm feeling generous, I stuff the bink back in her mouth.  Mostly, I just lie there hating being awake and let her fuss.  Either way, she's back to sleep in a matter of minutes.  Not I!

Today I am so exhausted I could fall asleep on this keyboard.  Seeking tips for how to explain to Lucia that she needs to be QUIET during her 3:00 am wakeful spell.  Short of that, I'd love to learn how to return to sleep when disturbed at the witching hour!

  1. John does the same thing. I just feed him and he's back down in 20 minutes. Except for when he's not and then we go through the whole 90 minute cycle. I try to get him before he's really awake though.
