The Good News and The Bad News

I am in serious need of some good morning sickness remedies.  Nibbling on crackers just isn't cutting it.

I got pregnant on my last cycle -- cycle 3 after Hub's fever and the last chance before his trip, for those keeping track.  Now I feel like dying, and I'm only 6 weeks in.

It's reminiscent of pregnancies #1 and #2 (Elsie and blighted ovum respectively).  I am not throwing up (so it could be worse), but the nausea is debilitating.  Food of almost any sort makes me gag.  I smell EVERYTHING.  I am completely useless for most of the day.  I don't know how working women do it.  In both those previous pregnancies I ground to a halt at work, barely showing my face for weeks.  This time I don't have to put on a brave face for anyone but Elsie.  She keeps a nice schedule, allowing for 3 hours of couch-wallowing during nap and bedtime at 7:00 pm, as soon as she's down.  During my waking hours, it's constant, unrelenting queasy misery.

Of course, it's also just what I always wanted, so hooray for that!

If you know me IRL, keep it on the down-low, please!  Six weeks is nowhere near safety yet.  At least you'll know why I'm green at Thanksgiving!

  1. Congratulations! So happy to hear your good news! I had really bad nausea early in my pregnancy this past summer, and it was awful! I am a teacher, so on the bright side I wasn't working yet, but it definitely ruined parts of summer vacation. I feel for ya! As far as remedies go, I tried all the old tricks to no avail, and eventually some things just started working for me. For example, my favorite thing to eat was soup and smoothies: calories without chewing! And it also helped to at least drink water right after waking up. Because if I was going to throw up, I learned that it was better to throw up liquid than nothing at all!

I pray that it only lasts the first trimester. At my first pregnancy visit to the Doc, she asked if I had any nausea/vomiting, I said yes, and before I could even start complaining about it, she says, "That's great! I love to hear when people are super sick--it's a good thing! Means the placenta is doing it's job!" So there you go! It's a good thing!

Congrats again and I look forward to reading about your progress!
